The Dustdevil Men’s Soccer Team defeated the Montana State-Billings Yellow Jackets by 4-1.
The goals were scored by Ryan Harrison, Karl McGettrick, Adeyemi Gill and Gregory Mulamba, giving the Dustdevils their victory over the Yellow Jackets.
The Sept. 22 score marked the third win in a row for the team, adding some much needed momentum as they become accustomed to being a part of the NCAA Division II.
While the Lady Dustdevils are finding the transfer a bit more challenging, the Men’s team appears to be coping very well to being in the new conference.
Early on in the season there were signs of trouble as the team struggled with what appeared to be a weak formation, but lately there have been some visible changes that seem to be working just fine for them. The team as a whole has dramatically improved from the start, with less errors (errors that plagued the team at the beginning of the season). In addition, the team seems to be taking care of the middle (not underestimating the opponents) and goalie box.
The Mulamba brothers appear to have been moved from their season starting positions the past three games. Gregory now spends more time as a forward and Oliver is not more visible in the back defense (a move that appears to have cut off entry for goals and instead allowed the forwards some room to score).
It is apparent that the whole team picked up the pace from the first three games and now playing more unified.
The wining streak is due to “three key things: 1. the way we have been playing our defense, 2. understanding our roles within the system we have implemented, 3. taking the opportunities we create in offensively,” notes Claudio Arias, men’s soccer head coach.
“(The team) struggled at the beginning, but now we are looking forward to keeping our winning streak,” said Arias.
