A closer look at Greeks on campus

On behalf of the Greeks at TAMIU, I want to welcome back everyone to the 2006-2007 school year. My name is Alfredo “Freddy” Gonzalez III, and I am currently the President of the Greek Affiliated Professionals, I’m in my third year at TAMIU and I am majoring in Management Information Systems and have been a member of Alpha Psi Lambda since the fall of 2005. The Greek Affiliated Professionals currently have four strong organizations which consist of Alpha Psi Lambda Co-Ed Fraternity Inc. Omicron Chapter, Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity Colony 284, Delta Psi Alpha Co-Ed Fraternity Inc. Gamma Chapter, and Kappa Delta Chi Sorority Inc. Alpha Iota Chapter. Our organization was created in 2005, when representatives from each of the individual organizations came together to create a council to discuss Greek matters and to organize various community service and inter-fraternity events around the university campus and outside community. The council consists of an executive board, two delegates from each of the four organizations and a growing number of brothers and sisters.

The stigma we face as a Greek organization is that we are group of students that are worried more about the night life, then academics and community service. At TAMIU, our Greek organizations have put academics, community service and on-campus involvement at the top of the list. Each organization has their own set of purposes and goals that their chapter is founded on. Each group strives to fulfill those goals and purposes. Our goal as a Greek Council is to foster a sense of Unity among each of the four organizations and the Council as a whole. We also draft legislation that affects all aspects of Greek Life on campus. As a council we promote positive relations with the university campus and outside community.

Currently, we are working on various community service projects and are always looking for new membership to help further that along. If you are interested in joining any of these organizations and becoming part of the Greek Affiliated Professionals, you can find more information at each fraternity’s website: www.alphapsilambda.net (Alpha Psi Lambda), www.deltapsialpha.net (Delta Psi Alpha), www.kappadeltachi.org (Kappa Delta Chi), and www.lambdachi.org (Lambda Chi Alpha). You can also visit us in the Student Activities where the old Campus Activities Board cubicle was located (PH 224).

Now you know a little bit more about the students that walk around campus with Greek letters on their chest. I will do my best to make sure that Greek life becomes a long lasting tradition on campus. On behalf of the Greek Council, I wish all student organizations a great year and hope to see you all around campus.

Sincerely,

Alfredo “Freddy” Gonzalez, III

President, Greek Affiliated Professionals
