The Lady Dustdevils might have lost to Dallas Baptist but they made other gains out on the Oct. 7 game. The Dustdevils were picking up the pace and it appears as if though they are finally shaking off the NCAA scare they seemed to have the couple of last games.
Selina Gusman (#5) was among the players that seem to have broken out of their shell and demonstrating to the fans how good these ladies really are out on the field.
In the end the effort made by the Lady Dustdevils was not enough to prevent a loss (2-1) to the Patriots. The only goal scored in the game for TAMIU was by Rachel Carranza. Goal Keeper Mary Jo Hall (#00) made several remarkable saves throughout the game, demonstrating how well she can defend the goalie box.
Other attempts to get the ball through the Patriots’ goalie were made by Stephanie Webb and Selina Gusman. Both fell short of actually scoring as a result of DBU’s strong defense.
The Dustdevil’s appear to still be suffering from a very “gappy” middle and careless mistakes that cost them goals and in this case the game.
Game Highlights (thanks to Dan Lathey and the Department of Athletics):

All scoring took place in the second half with DBU (8-4 overall) taking a 1-0 lead in the 50th minute on a goal by Mandy Gómez. TAMIU freshman Rachel Caranza would tie the score with a goal set-up by a Sandy Hernández assist in the 61st minute before Gómez scored the game-winner for the Patriots by putting the ball in the net at the end of a long breakaway run with seven minutes left in regulation.
Freshman goalkeeper Mary Jo Hall registered seven saves for the Dustdevils. DBU out-shot TAMIU, 17-7.
