EDITOR SAYS… Stone Wally World for Christmas

Not too long ago Wal-Mart announced it would be using the word “Christmas” this year in advertisements.

The next day (in some places within hours of the announcement) this private decision by people that run the retail giant was making headlines.

It was as if though Wally World had done something so wrong that the world as a whole should have to stop what ever it was that they were doing to take note.

What is up with everyone trying to be too politically correct about everything?

The age of people being themselves and expressing their true feelings and opinions about certain topics is long gone.

Political correctness overuse is not a disease affecting only politicians, it has spread to the masses and has infected our society as a whole.

People try too hard to make sure that every word that comes out of their mouths is not going to hurt someone’s feelings or make others think that they are bigots.

What is wrong with Wal-Mart using the word Christmas?

I know that there are other holidays that take place during this period and that we should also take them into consideration when referring the season as a whole, but must we exclude the word Christmas?

The last time I picked up a “holiday” advertisement for any store, I recall making out the branches of a CHRISTMAS TREE and CHRISTMAS STOCKINGS, not to mention the old fat guy in the red suit.

All of these are Christmas symbols.

Being politically correct means tolerating the beliefs and religious practices of people, so why not do so for Christians trying to celebrate Christmas?

I for one will not refrain from saying Merry Christmas to people or stop shopping at Wal-Mart for my everyday needs.

When we become too politically correct with our everyday lives we begin to lose a fundamental right that the founding fathers gave us — the freedom of speech.

I understand that we have to sometimes be politically correct about certain things (like race) in order to be able to live peacefully with each other, but over use of it is killing America.
