I find it a wonder that George Strait has managed to stay in the business this long. He rarely makes any music videos because quite frankly he does not like making them. He has released five albums in five years, and unsurprisingly they have all gone to number one on the Billboard’s Top Country Albums.
The title of his latest album, It Just Comes Natural seems to speak more about the man than it does the music. He has been making music for over 20 years, and his success has yet to falter. He is able to breeze over most of the album so efficiently and effortlessly.
On his first single, “Give It Away” he sings about a topic he is pretty familiar with: divorce. His wife has all but left him and wants him to give away their belongings as a couple, including her diamond ring and king-size bed. “Give It Away” proves that Strait does not need to stray from the formula to be successful.
His second single, “It Just Comes Natural” brings out another side of Strait that I have never really heard before. His voice soars on the chorus, as he sings about things that happen naturally. It sounds just like his career.
A song on the album that most of us can relate to is “Texas Cookin'”. The song chronicles different Texas dishes that can satisfy anyone’s appetite. George is no stranger to Texas style cooking seeing as how he is from the great state of Texas.
Other notable songs include, “That’s My Kind of Woman” were Strait idealizes his perfect woman, “She can drive a truck and rope and ride … That’s my kind of woman.”
Wrapped finds George under the spell of a woman, a subject that is not new in songwriting, but what makes the song great is the bridge, “Ain’t gonna let no man go down without a fight / ’cause my stalls and walls look better in the bright daylight.”
“It Just Comes Natural” is easily an instant classic that can be played over and over again. Although, She Told Me So is one song that could have been removed without hurting the quality of the album. It is albums like this that show why George Strait has had such a long, successful career in country music.
