When did smoking marijuana become such an issue? According to the History Channel, during the 1930s a man by the name of Harry J. Anslinger made it seem more dangerous than it really was. Yellow journalism also contributed to the bad reputation of the plant.
The first campaigns gave marijuana a bad name. One commercial showed a woman being killed by a stoned ax murderer, insinuating that the plant was connected to violent behavior. Of course, back in those days, everyone believed what they saw on television.
Present day commercials show how marijuana truly is, but still exaggerated. For example, there’s the stoned woman who looks like a pancake on the couch. Her friend tells the audience the stoned girl sits and does nothing.
Sure, pot makes people feel lazy and down. They might be hurting themselves, but who else are they hurting?
Let’s compare the legalized alcohol with marijuana. First of all, more people die of alcohol related accidents than do pot smokers. America has drivers killing pe0ople due to the consumption of alcohol, teenagers die of alcohol poisoning, and people can choke on their own vomit just by overdrinking.
More violence occurs with alcohol. For example, at the clubs on the strip located on Springfield Ave. and Del Mar Blvd., people become drunk and get rowdy with each other to the point that an idiot has the nerve to pull out a gun and shoot. Yet, it is okay to sell alcohol. (Of course not to minors, but they can still get their hands on it.)
What harm has marijuana done? For one, it just makes people feel flat and relaxed. Of course, pot causes people to commit gluttony by overeating but who hasn’t committed any of the seven deadly sins?
People cannot overdose on this substance. They can only smoke themselves into a stupor. What are the statistics on death rates for the use of pot?
Does marijuana make people think slower than usual? There are some who smoke and still succeed in life. The only way they probably won’t succeed is if they get drug tested. Good luck on that.
Then the government allowed for a similar substance to be sold, Purple Sticky Salvia. The effects of the substance are intense. For being legal, it causes powerful hallucinations to the point that a friend freaked out and smacked his friend everywhere. Why doesn’t the government want to legalize marijuana but yet allowed Purple Sticky Salvia to be sold? Who would want to inhale a man-made substance while they could inhale a naturally grown plant? The government does not care what people inhale as long as it sees dollar signs.
It took one man’s ambition to get rid of pot. Did he succeed? The answer is no. Even though marijuana is illegal, somehow it finds its way back to the U.S.
Wake up America. Marijuana has been around before Julius Caesar’s days.
