For students desiring an outlet to express and share their art, Reflections is accepting submissions. The literary magazine is published annually and is comprised of student work including prose, poetry, art, and photography.”It’s an opportunity to see how your work can be interpreted based on the-no pun intended-reflections of others,” says Andrew Villarreal, a graduate student whose work was published in the 2007 edition of Reflections.Submissions should be original work. Students interested in writing prose can submit short stories, creative nonfiction, or personal essays. Those who write poetry may submit poems or music lyrics. All written work may be submitted in any language; however, works submitted in a language other than English must be accompanied by an English translation. Photography and artwork submissions-paintings, drawings, prints, and graphic art design-may be in black and white or color. Additional information on submission guidelines can be found on the Writing Center’s website at http://www.tamiu.edu/writingcenter/guidelines.shtml. Students are welcomed to visit the Writing Center, BCH 203, for more details as well.Submissions can be sent or delivered to Kimberly R. Thomas, director of the Writing Center. Thomas can be contacted by phone at (956) 326-2885 or via email at kthomas@tamiu.edu. The deadline for submissions is May 9.Villarreal offers advice to students thinking about submitting their work.”Jump off the deep end and do it. It’s important to put yourself out there and reflect yourself to an audience,” he said, adding, “I’m looking forward to more submissions and seeing the TAMIU community creating and expressing.”
