That great time can be found at the new and improved F-Bar, now known as the F-Ultra Lounge, located at 5517 McPherson, Suite 7.”Are you F-ing tonight?” is the bar’s catchy slogan.Blending the old and the new, the F-Ultra Lounge is spacious but still crowded on good nights. Opened for more than a month, this establishment deserves two thumbs up because it accommodates different people, such as those who want to dance, converse, relax, or play pool. When entering the building, customers can chose from two rooms with totally different atmospheres. The left side is dimly lit and includes comfortable seating and tables. On one side of a wall, different-colored lights shine through many small squares next to each other, giving the effect of a 70s retro dance floor. The room brightens depending on what color the funky squares shine.The retro-lighted wall compliments the music played by disc jockeys Big Lou and Dirty Monkey. The music is not your typical Laredo selection since these DJs play a variety to please a wide range of tastes. DJ Big Lou mixes tremendously, combining music from today’s hits in techno, dance, hip hop, pop, electronica, and some old school hits from the 80s and 90s, which gets the crowd jumping and dancing. DJ Dirty Monkey does likewise when he mixes on Wednesday’s College Night.Special guest DJs from around the nation mix at the bar as well.If clients do not want to be around the loud music and crowds, the right side is the room for them. It offers guests a relaxed atmosphere in which they can play pool for free.Both rooms have a bar which sells an assortment of mixed drinks and beer. The domestic beers are reasonably priced at $3 while mixed drinks cost $6, more if they are top shelf.On Wednesdays, the bar offers $2 well drinks and $2 longneck beers all night long. The service is great because no matter how packed the place is, it is not difficult to obtain a drink.Several security guards and bouncers keep watch to maintain peace and safety.The F-Ultra Lounge allows only people 21 years of age and older to enter. Local authorities stand at the entrance to prohibit minors from entering the venue. After 11 p.m., men pay a $5 cover charge. However, this venue is definitely worth more since it offers a great crowd, awesome music, delicious drinks, and two atmospheres.
