This year Autmus Fest overflowed with fans eager to experience the up-and-coming bands showcased Saturday night. The acts ranged from rock to country to pop and even tejano. Supaphat, a veteran rock band of the Autmus, gave the audience an explosive performance, just as expected.”The first time we played was for a battle of the bands four years ago, and we won, of course. From there on, we have steadily been climbing the Autmus Fest ladder,” said vocalist Eric Gonzalez.Gonzales added that he was extremely pleased with the outcome of Autmus. “This show was great, [and] the stage was awesome–the set-up, the whole thing. The Fest has been getting better as they go along. I think they have been figuring it out. From the beginning to now… you totally see the difference. It was definitely the biggest draw to date,” he said.Nothing More, an alternative rock band from San Antonio, caught the attention of a younger audience and unexpectedly gave a shocking show. With pieces reminiscent of Stomp, the guys attracted even more people to the stage. “People always ask, ‘Where [do] you guys get this stuff?’ Honestly we don’t know. We just really want to do something different. When people don’t know your song, bands forget that they are performers, and we want to entertain. We have a lot of fun doing it,” explained lead guitarist, Mark Vollelunga.Though a frequent guest at Average Joe’s bar, this was Nothing More’s first performance at Autmus Fest. When asked if they would perform again at the Aumus Fest, Vollelunga answered yes.”It was good; we had a lot of fun. A bit of technical difficulties, but very entertaining,” he said.Audiences were also entertained by the unique voice of Kirsten Mari, a rising pop star from Austin. Only 19-years-old, she is already signed to Ultrax Records and co-writes much of her own music. Mari has recorded with artists such as Chris Brown, but she took a break to sing at the Aumus Fest.”I feel like if I’m in a movie set, you know, downtown,” said Mari in reference to Laredo. Some of her musical influences are Aretha Franklin, Christina Aguilera, Fergie, and Mariah Carey. This year’s Autmus Fest had the best musical performers by far, including headlining band Kinky. However, there is still room for improvement, according to some. “I hope next year, though, they can get some cutting-edge artist, maybe some more regionals and not just the cliché. Look into the music scene and bring someone that can make a splash in Laredo,” concluded Gonzalez.Though many were intrigued by this year’s acts, fans want next year’s Autmus Fest to be bigger and better.
