The semester is coming to an end, and some of us are certainly reaching the end of our wits with stress. Tests start accumulating; presentation dates get closer and closer, research papers are due, and we find ourselves overwhelmed and at times even defeated. Don’t panick! Take a few moments to relax. Now, I know that some days are hectic, and there is just no way you are willing to leave your precious parking spot to take a stress-free break before facing the rest of your day. Well, it turns out that our TAMIU campus actually counts with a few places where we can find an ambiance that can offer tranquility and some peace of mind. Here’s a few of them:
“The Freedom Circle”
Few students know that the area located in the middle of the TAMIU green where the fountain stands is actually called “the freedom circle.” Here, students are free to hang-out and express themselves. Here, students can also find a place to relive stress. The soothing sound of the fountain can help you relax, and the flow of the water can help your thoughts to run smoothly. “People watching” can sometimes prove to be relaxing. Perhaps a friend or two will pass by and together you may create an environment that may prove to be liberating from whatever is going on in some of your classes.
“The Lamar Bruni Vergara Garden”
Located a few feet from “the freedom circle”, the LBV garden offers a picturesque setting for the student seeking some piece of mind while on-campus. Student traffic around the area is rare, and the silence may prove the perfect antidote for a chaotic mind.
“The Great Room”
Located in the 3rd floor of the Killam Library, the Great Room is a great place to relax. Take a cup of coffee, a good book, or your laptop, and sit by the windows. The view itself is very relaxing, and it’s not rare to see a deer or two as they feed on the pastures.
“The Rec. Center”
If you can’t fight the stress, try kicking it out of your body by exercising. Check out the Department of Recreational Sports, better known to TAMIU students as the Rec. Center. The Rec. provides a big weight and cardio room, two exercise rooms, satellite radio, wireless internet, open recreation equipment, free weights, among other things. The Rec. also offers free yoga, and other classes throughout the year.
