Halloween Oksoberfest, previously known as Halloween Fest, is one of TAMIU’s oldest traditions on campus. Every year, Campus Activities Board, in collaboration with the Office of Student Affairs, hosts a festival open to students as well as the public in celebration of Halloween. The event offers a series of games where students can win prizes, attractions, and food booths.
Oksoberfest, usually held at the TAMIU front lawn, was relocated this year. It was held at the Student Center Patio, which left many students dissatisfied. Freddy Gonzalez, Senior TAMIU student said, “I feel that when an event is no longer held on the TAMIU front lawn, it has been downgraded. Oksoberfest should be an event that is held in the front of TAMIU so that it can attract students as well as the community.”
While the event was a success, many felt the event would have been a bigger success if it had been held in its usual spot. Students also got to enjoy the TAMIU dance team’s Michael Jackson tribute, as well as Oksoberfest’s traditional games like the Halloween costume contest. The winner of $100 dollars cash went to Zorro, for the second year in a row. Overall, the event’s atmosphere was enjoyable. Many students participated in the events despite the complaints about the relocation. Oksoberfest 2010 is sure to happen next year, but who knows where it will be relocated next?
