On the heels of their first successful theatrical run, TAMIU Theater Troupe welcomes all TAMIU students, theater majors or not, to join the student run troupe this Spring.
Auditions will be a cold read on Wednesday, Feb. 10 and Thursday, Feb. 11 at 7:30 p.m. at SC 120.
For those still in need of more information, they will be holding their first meeting Wednesday, Feb. 3 and Thursday, Feb. 4 at 7:30 p.m. at SC 120.
Their first production, Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead, a parody with the Peanuts characters, detailed the pitfalls of edging into adulthood and individuality. Troupe events coordinator, Casandra Canales adds this play set the precedence for the rest of the season. “It established the kind of theater we’re looking to bring to Laredo. We want to show people that theater can be funny and edgy,” says Canales.
Selling out two out of the three nights, the show was a hit with students and faculty alike. Canales maintains that the shows for spring have already been narrowed down.
“Everyone has a say in what to do for a play. Anyone can pitch in a play, and members can vote for their favorite one.” explains Canales.
The final say, however, goes to the director, also a member of the troupe.
Casandra Canales also directed the first production of Dog Sees God.
Not an actor?
Try your hand in makeup, lightening or music design. Writing is even up as an option, as the troupe is always looking for faculty or student written works to put on.
On the previous theater ticket along side Dog Sees God was Choices, written by a TAMIU faculty member, Warren Graffeo. “The theater troupe is really about providing a platform for creative talent. Whether you’re an actor, designer, writer, you name it – there’s a place for you here,” states Canales.
