The closing reception for the ‘Real Portraits: Photographs,’ a Tim Tracz photography exhibit was held on April 8 from 5-7:30 p.m. at Texas A&M International University’s Center for Fine and Performing Arts Gallery.
The reception, which is usually held at the opening of an exhibit, was saved until the end of the exhibit’s showcase.
Tracz’ work has been displayed across the country and has been exclusively showcased in permanent collections in the University of Oregon and The Philadelphia Museum of Art. According to the press release, he received his master’s in fine arts from the Tyler School of Art and a bachelor’s from Pennsylvania State University.
The exhibit visited TAMIU and initially opened March 4. The reception was free and open to the public which included drinks and finger food.
The photos consisted of a wide variety of topics that portrayed abstract interpretations of human life, intended to tell a story.
Martiza Morris, a sophomore history major who attended the exhibit, described Tracz photography, “I thought it was very interesting. It seemed very surreal. It seems as though I wasn’t sure if the people were even real because it seemed as though they were all so old, like as if they were people from two decades ago. Then there was this section where the people in the photos were antique but the background was modern. I liked it and found every picture intriguing.”
Noe Rodriguez, another attendee described his own experience at the Tracz exhibit.
“I’m trying to picture a story behind these photos, and figure out what exactly is being told with one shot of the story. I think that’s what this exhibit is all about; it’s trying to portray a story in your own head that makes sense to you as opposed to anyone else.”
