Editor’s Letter

Cheers to an opportunity ridden university and unwritten future
Although you’ll find me walking around the corridors until late July (when I finally graduate), this issue marks the last as my reign as Editor-in-chief. I will graciously be handing over the glamorous responsibility to Christine Rojas, our current designer, with full confidence that The Bridge is in efficient, innovative hands.
But before I leave I want to stress one thing I’ve learned at TAMIU. This is not to insinuate I’ve only learned one thing, though that would be an amusingly lame conquest.
Anything is possible here. Corny, right? But much of what I’ve accomplished in the two years I’ve been at this university I owe to the opportunities provided by the faculty and staff.
While I’m fully aware not everyone is a Communications major, or even a part of the College of Arts and Sciences (but you should be – it’s full of fabulous people), I must thank the following individuals:
Dr. Lynda Brown, you re-instilled a passion for writing (namely, journalism) and provided me with the foundation (and push) I needed.
Dr. Maria Flores, you trusted my wide-eyed, 20-year-old, baby self to head this student paper. I hope I’ve made you proud.
Dr. Paul Niemeyer, you believed in the theater troupe (and me) when I found it hard to. Yes, that was enough Mr. 2010 Advisor of the Year.
By the way, it was difficult to narrow it down to three individuals. Okay, enough with the nuisances. Strangers, you get the point.
I truly do hope every single grad and soon-to-be graduate has met at least one remarkable professor in the duration they’ve been here. After all, there’s more to this university than passing classes and the lack of parking availabilities. There are relationships to nourish, opportunities to utilize and experiences to hold.
So, what are you waiting for – yes, even you graduates?

Cheers unwritten future, Stephanie Ibarra
