Great Achievements

TAMIU has one of the best libraries in all of Laredo. If you ever need to find a book you can always visit the TAMIU library. You can visit the reference desk for more information. There will be Mr. John Maxstadt.

John Maxstadt is an amazing person. He is originally from Indiana and moved here to Laredo. Before coming here to Laredo, he got his bachelor’s from Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana. Then he achieved one master’s degree from the Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey and received another master’s degree from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. Mr. Maxstadt became a librarian and remained one for 26 years. Currently, he is head of public services in TAMIU which means he supervises all the public service areas of the library. He is in charge of areas that include reference, circulation, and more. Under his tenure contract Mr. Maxstadt hopes to retire working at TAMIU.

Mr. Maxstadt has many hobbies which include being active in theater, growing cacti, and participating in many committees. He currently grows over 400 types of cacti. Once every week he brings a different cactus to work and places it on the library reference desk. This is his way of showing a little bit of who he is outside of working as the head of the library’s public service. Mr. Maxstadt is also a very active member of the local theater. He is presently working on the production of Sweeny Todd by LCC and the production of The Sound of Music.

Mr. Maxstadt enjoys working at TAMIU and giving back to the community.
