STWP Hosts Camps at TAMIU

The month of July, notorious for its extreme heat, experienced some unexpected flooding, a charming visitor named Alex and most importantly, saw some very educational summer camps at TAMIU. The South Texas Writing Project hosted several writing camps in an effort to help students from both primary and secondary schools with their writing.

Through the planetarium, the students were taught to soar through space, write in a digital age and the basics in reading and writing. The STWP, in conjunction with The Bridge Student Newspaper, held its first writing camp for future journalists and photojournalists. All the camps provided different methods of writing for the students that established a fun and creative atmosphere.

“These camps help to enrich the minds of the students with hands-on activities and creative writing,” stated Daniela Rodriguez, STWP Co-Director. Through the STWP, students from schools around Laredo and Encinal have benefited from the dedicated professors and their interest in writing. These camps have given many students a good university experience and will continue to do so for years to come.
