As a student at Texas A&M International University, something really interesting to do in class, apart from listening to the professor’s lecture, is to look around. On the first day of class, the professor tends to explain their syllabus where they have included class etiquette. However, as the semester goes on so do the mannerisms, which manifest themselves differently.
Some students close their eyes for what they’ve considered a few seconds, yet noises can be heard. By the time you know it your friend or classmate is already on their third stage of sleep. You might find it hilarious, which it usually is, but the professor who notices will not share the same feeling. On the contrary, they tend to wake the student up with a sarcastic “Welcome Back” and fierce stare.
Laptops in class are also a big no-no for professors. At first they were for an academic purpose yet professors realized students’ true intentions: quality Facebook and Fail Blog time. It was not the person who was on the laptop who made this obvious. It was the people behind them who could not stop laughing or who intensely stared at the screen pointing it out to other classmates. So much for privacy!
Classmates also tend to slouch a lot making professor’s believe they are moving around, but the true purpose is to open that text message from XYZ. The funny part is that students think professors do not notice since they are in the auditorium setting; but they already know.
If there’s something we tend to forget is that professors, who have years of experience, do know what is truly going on in their classes. They might not acknowledge the fact of you having a laptop or are texting but remember that maybe one day you might have to ask them for help. How would you feel if the professor reminded you of your daily class activities?
