Midterm Stress Reliever

It seems as if it were yesterday each and every one of you were finding your way to your first class of the semester. You were getting settled into a new academic year preparing yourselves for what the classes had in store for you. Now, as September is coming to an end, you may have come to realize that midterms are nearby. Midterms can be quite stressful for the students, as it’s the point where the professors realize how much you have learned, and it is also a way of knowing that finals will soon be nearby.

Dr. Gilberto Salinas, Director of the Student Counseling and Health Services provided some tips to help relieve the stress and anxiety that midterms may provide for the students.

The most important idea is to study, attend class, and take good notes.

Get a good night sleep. If you don´t have a good night sleep, it will be difficult to concentrate.

Have a good breakfast. The brain runs in two things, oxygen and glucose; make sure you have a good quantity of both.

Regular exercise will help reduce the levels of anxiety.hippocampus).

Practice simple relaxations techniques, such as meditation or breathing.

A relaxation room is also provided for the student body. The relaxation room will provide a massage chair, soft music, and a room therapy to help reduce anxiety and help the students relax. The room will be located in the Student Success Center, the Counseling Center will be moving to the new location by mid October, no set date yet.
