For the past five semesters at TAMIU, majority of the time I had classes scheduled Monday thru Friday. At one point, I had mentioned that I would never take classes on Saturday. However, the expression of never saying never was very true. By the time registration had opened, I found myself signing up for one of my communication courses, Advanced Journalistic Writing, on a Saturday morning.
I had never given much thought to Saturday classes, because I did not think about having to take one. I even clearly remember being reluctant to submit my registration form or even putting an S under the day’s class would be held. It was time to assess the pros and cons of having a Saturday class. The pro’s included only having two classes a day, Monday thru Thursday, which meant more time to catch up on homework. However, the con’s included not enjoying Friday nights because if not, I would not wake up for class.
Regardless of my thoughts during winter break to break free from Saturday class, I kept it. It was the first Saturday, and to our surprise thirty minutes of the class had gone by and our professor had not arrived. I have to admit that I was excited, since I assumed we would not have class. However, we later discovered that class was being held in another room, in a different building on campus. Therefore, we arrived to our journalism class and sat there, thirty minutes late with not a very happy mindset.
However, this semester has been going by at a rapid place and with that I have gotten used to Saturday classes. My perspective has changed because even if I did not take the class, I would still be awake early. As for now, I have been able to learn interesting topics throughout the class, let alone, I have met new friends who are charismatic journalists of El Mañana.
So even though I am comfortable with my Saturday class, it is only for this semester. Hopefully, no one else will have to find themselves in the situation of writing an “S” on their registration forms.
