Distance Education Week is Coming Up!

In order to promote student achievement, The Instructional Technology Coordinators (OIT) will have various training sessions where campus faculty will learn and show how they use the technology to facilitate the tools their students need. OIT will be hosting its 3rd annual Distance Education Week at Texas A&M International University in Western Hemispheric Trade Center room 111 from November 7th to November 10th the sessions will take place and in November 11th every professor is invited to the showcase.

To improve teaching techniques all TAMIU professors are invited to join several of the free sessions, which last an hour, and share their teaching methods. Four sessions during the day will be provided to facilitate attendance between 9am to 4 pm. Faculty members who attend more than three sessions will be entering in a draw to win iPads; and webcams, USBs, and more are going to be awarded in every session. To finalize the event, professors are invited to propose their ideas in an individual booth, at the showcase, where they can use posters, screens, computers, and materials they use to teach their students. The primary purpose is to improve the quality not only of teaching students, but improve those students learning ability.

Distance Education Week generates awareness by updating professors on how to use the E-learning system more effectively. This Idea is part of the United States Distance Learning Association, which encourages every institution in the United States from K-12 to Higher Education to promote Distance Education. ANGEL Is TAMIU’s E-Learning management system. Faculty post lectures, notes, power points etc; e-mail is the mostly used by most of faculty.

E-learning has tools such as, 100% online courses, which consist of interactive video conferencing were TAMIU faculty can give to students who are in different locations. Gradual level conferencing college of education, for graduate students, so that they don’t have to travel to the university at night (graduate level courses are given usually at night). Webb conferencing, instead of video conferencing where you need equipment on both ends in order for it to work; this is done directly done on the web with a web cam. Nowadays, ANGEL has live chat, this application is for students to ask live technicians questions regarding ANGEL, such as when something not working properly in a class.
