VOLLEYBALL | Double Awards

 

The Texas A&M International University women’s volleyball team has already proven that last year’s season is already in the past. Adding to the happened on the ending week of October 23, 2011, two of the Dustdevils volleyball players, Daria Winckler and Andrea Marshall were nominated the Setter and Hitter, consecutively, of the week for the Heartland Conference. 

Hitter of the week, the newcomer Junior from Clinton, AZ, Andrea Marshall, is currently ranked fourth in kills, with 343 kills for the Dustdevils.  Marshall says, “It is showing not only how hard I am working but also how hard my teammates around me are working to achieve our goal of getting to the Heartland Conference Finals.” Marshall is not only helping the team offensively but also defensively. She is ranked tenth on number of digs, with 359 on the Heartland conference, Marshall adds, “It is definitely a privilege.”

 The also newcomer Junior from Zillah, WS, Daria Winckler, was honored with the setter of the week nomination. Winckler says, “I am fortunate to have a team that pushes me to play my best and they are the reason for my success.”  The one and only setter for the Dustdevils volleyball team is ranked in fourth place at the Heartland conference in assists, with a total of 995 assists, which means every time she set a ball the attacker scored a point. Winckler, who also won the award of best setter at the Midwestern State Hampton In Tournament in the beginning of the season, says “It is good to get recognition for all of the hard work that we put in. It also motivates us to keep working hard to reach our goals.”

The Ladies Dustdevils have two extremely important games coming up this week. On November 3rd and 5th they play at home against Dallas Baptist and St. Edwards. Entrance is free for all students that show their ID and/or wear maroon.
