Mr. TAMIU Candidate: Jonathan Gutierrez

My name is Jonathan David Gutierrez and I am currently a Junior at TAMIU double majoring in Political Science and English. I am one of four children, all of whom are currently enrolled in college. I am proud to be involved in many different organizations around campus; some of the most notable positions that I hold are, Tennis Club President, Association of International Students Director of Programming, A&M Chancellors Student Advisory Council Secretary and Student Government Association Senator-At-Large. Some other organizations that I am also actively involved in are: Political Science Association, WorldMUN, and the pre-law fraternity Phi Alpha Delta. I am also currently employed on campus through AmeriCorps as a community service project coordinator, in which I help recruit TAMIU students to do community service and promote local events for non-profit organizations. Through the study abroad program at TAMIU I have been able to study various international topics ranging from European Security Issues After the Cold War in Rome, Italy to Intensive Mandarin in Shanghai, China. Upon graduation from TAMIU I plan on attending law school with a focus on International and Environmental Law. My goals for the future motivate me to continue my education and engage with my community both on and off campus. I am more than exited for the future and for the many opportunities that are afforded to me because of my college education and my experiences here at TAMIU.

I am a candidate rooted in student organizations, and as Mr.TAMIU, I would make it my mission to increase and promote student engagement with our on-campus leadership programs and student organizations. Throughout my time at TAMIU I have made it my goal to increase student involvement and recognition of the work that our student organizations do for the TAMIU community and for the city of Laredo, at large. Student organizations are the backbone of this university as they allow students to sharpen their character and develop skills that cannot be learned in the classroom and as Mr.TAMIU, I would use the knowledge that I have gained through interaction with these various organizations to promote all of the great things that our students our doing in the community, and the greater things that can be done by students getting involved on campus.
