Students React to AutMus

Rain clouds greeted the small, but faithful audience gathered at Texas A&M International University front lawn on Saturday, Sept. 4 for the sixth annual AutMus fest. The event began at 4:30 p.m. with intervals of rain throughout the early hours of the event. Attendees flocked to a large tent provided by the National Guard and speakers on stage were covered periodically to prevent water damage.

However, encouraging radio personalities from La Ley 100.5 kept the crowd enthusiastic. A main concern expressed by students on campus dealt with the selection of music featured at AutMus. Amanda Santos, stated that she enjoyed the selection at this year’s Autmus.

“Well, I’m not a huge fan of Tejano but I have to say I was impressed this year on the band selection. Not only did my friend’s band get to perform for the first time at AutMus but it was great range of genres,” stated Santos.

Another attendee, Ramiro Hernandez, was pleased by seeing one of his favorite Tejano groups, The Palominos play at AutMus this year.”I really liked the Palominos, they’re my favorite band. I like Tejano music and I think it’s really fun to dance to,” said Hernandez.

Other attendees were disappointed over the music they heard at AutMus. Among these include, Manuel Morales.

“It was allright for the most part, but it wasn’t as fun as I expected it to be. I expected more people and expected more booths.” Morales continued. “They should get better bands.” He later continued his statement by explaining that he found musical selection mediocre.

Over ten food vendors were present at the event as well as merchandise for AutMus. Proceeds from the event will serve as scholarship money available to future TAMIU students.
