Sledge TV hosts first-ever award ceremony

Feb. 8, Sledge TV held its first “Best of 2007 Awards” ceremony in the Laredo Center for the Arts.

As The Pop Rocks deejayed that night, many band members and fans arrived downtown between 8 and 9 p.m.

Decorated in banners and neon lights, the center provided an attractive atmosphere. Attendees enjoyed the music, took pictures, ate, and drank on this entertaining night.

Last year, fans created an online ballot and nominated their favorite acts from 2007. Besides fans, Sledge TV’s personal staff members also selected their favorite bands and artists.

According to Sledge TV’s MySpace, “Bands were given 100 points for first place, 50 points for second place, and 25 points for third place finish on the online poll. They were then given an additional 50 points for each vote they received from our staff and tastemakers.”

As fans waited for the results, the two performing bands, Shazz and Fallen on September, felt honored to be nominated.

Shazz performed between awards. Consisting of four members, Shazz is a jazz/funk band that flows with any rhythm. Singer Erik Gonzalez free-styled while other songs were instrumental, but still made people bop their heads with the beat.

Fallen on September (FO9) closed the award ceremony. According to previous issue of The Bridge, FO9 also consists of four members. This new band rocks not only with heavy metal tunes but also with the contrasting, charming voice of Mayra Brizuela.
