Volleyball Falters To Dallas Baptist

Dallas, Texas – Dallas Baptist snapped Texas A&M International University’s three game winning streak Thursday night, knocking off the Dustdevils 3-1.  The Patriots won the match 25-19, 19-25, 24-26, 19-25.

“We got beat at our game tonight which is serve and pass,” said Head Coach Al Givens.  “You can’t afford your opponents extra opportunities especially when you’re on the road and that’s what we did.”

Andrea Marshall and Alex Ciszek led TAMIU offensively, with both players picking up double-doubles.  Marshall finished with a game high 18 kills and 12 digs, Ciszek threw down 15 kills and picked up 13 digs.  Setter Daria Winckler continues to be a stalwart for TAMIU finishing with a game high 47 assists, while Desiree Ortiz had a tremendous defensive performance picking up 33 digs in the four-set match.

After taking the opening set 25-19, the Dustdevils appeared to have the momentum going in the right direction.  However, the Patriots were able to regroup in the second set winning 19-25.  The third set was ripe for the taking with TAMIU leading 24-23 late in the game.  A few big plays by the Patriots gave Dallas Baptist the third set win 26-24 and a 2-1 set lead.  The Dustdevils fought hard to tie the match at two sets a piece, but the Patriots would go on to take the match winning the final set 19-25.

TAMIU falls to 4-2 in conference play, 10-11 overall.  The ladies are back on the court Saturday afternoon in Austin, Texas taking on the St. Edwards Hilltoppers, who are unbeaten in conference play.
