In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, which started on Sept 15 and continues through Oct 15, the university will be presenting a Hispanic Heritage Film Festival.The films being shown are Love in the Time of Cholera on Monday, Oct. 13 at 6:30 p.m. in the Student Center Theater (SC 236); Paulina on Tuesday, Oct. 14 at 4:30 p.m; Cabeza de Vaca on Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 6:30 p.m; Maquilapolis on Thursday, Oct. 16 at 6:30 p.m; and Fresa y Chocolate on Friday, Oct. 17 at 6:30 p.m.All films will be shown at the Student Center Theater, Room 236.”This free event is made possible by a U.S. Department of Education Title VI grant,” said Lisa Gardner Flores, Visiting Assistant Professor for the Department of Language and Literature.The films were chosen through a committee supported by the Title VI Grant from the U.S. Department of Education and Undergraduate International Studies and Foreign Language Program (UISFL).A Hispanic Studies doctoral student with a concentration in Bilingualism/Biculturalism, Flores believes this is a great opportunity for students to have some fun and gain knowledge about the Hispanic community.”I think it is an excellent opportunity to not only enjoy watching quality films in the comfort of the Student Center Auditorium, but I also hope that it provokes ongoing discussions about the rich heritage of the Hispanic community,” she said.
