The TAMIU Women’s Basketball team is ready for the upcoming seasons thanks to an opening win at home against Southwest Texas junior College on Oct. 23.
David Beaver is seating center stage as the new coach for the lady Dustdevils.
“It’s a great day to be a Dustdevil. I am pleased with the direction we are heading, and the Ladies are on a mission to win. We have had a good preseason and are doing very well,” said Coach Beaver.
As in the men’s side the women’s basketball team is also getting new faces.
The newest lineups were announced by Beaver back in October.
The new additions include Courtney Dixon Bacone College, Kiandra Metoyer Texas A&M Corpus Christi, Clovershea McGill San Antonio, Johnna Williams Xavier University, Sasha Scott Sussex Conty CC, Brittany Rendon San Antonio, Linda Banuelos Laredo, Valencia Roy Galena Park Northshore, Crystal Bustamante Lee HS.
The adjustments have been going well for the team during practices.
“We are adjusting well…we spent all preseason talking about getting good and feeling comfortable with one another. It’s a different level of basketball since the team is composed of freshman and seniors working together. We will be a good team throughout the season,” said Coach Beaver.
Coach Beaver is encouraging students and the community to get behind the new team.
“We are not the same product from the past. Come and watch us one time and you’ll get hooked! I really want the students and community to come out to the games and show support for the hard work this team is putting into each practice,” said Coach Beaver.
The lady Dustdevils have a returning face in the mix as Erika Rosas a native Laredoen after playing only part of last season.
This weekend the Lady Dustdevils will also be taking the road in 6 out of town games in 11 days during the Chico State Tournament and the Kingsville Turkey Day Shootout.
“Its going to be tough being away for the holidays, but we want to win every game. The Lady Dustdevils are driven to win. We are going to have a good meal and get some rest and learn from each game so that we can improve every single time we take the court. We are building on the past and ready to win,” said Coach Beaver.
The Lady Dustdevils will be back at home against Texas Wesleyan on Dec. 4.
