Editor says … Words might be like sticks & stones

Words are as essential to our modern day existence as the air we breathe. Even for those that lack the capacity to formulate words, a method has been created for them to be able to communicate using words.

Words make up so much of our everyday life that it is sometimes too easy to forget how beautiful it is to be able to describe our everyday events, memories, spontaneous moments and what-nots with them; we also are very forgetful about the damage words can do if we are not careful.

Think about how many times a day you speak words (as if though we could speak anything other than them) to your classmates, friends and family and then stop and think what each one of those words can mean to them. If we are not careful we could hurt with what comes out of our mouths; sometimes without meaning any harm we still manage to “cut like a knife” with our words.

When we, people, knowingly use words as weapons (we all know that they sometimes slap harder than any hand) we do so without understanding (maybe some do understand) or taking into consideration the repercussions of such actions.

If we throw out our words and have them dig hard enough, we may even create for ourselves one of the ugliest things that there is to have in life, enemies.

Words can also bring the biggest smiles to the faces of people or deliver much needed support or compassion without much effort. That is the beauty about words…use them wisely.

Write me your thoughts.
