Game 2 of the World Series on Oct. 25, 2012 was a pitchers dual throughout the game. Giants’ starter Madison Bumgarner and Tigers’ starter Doug Fister would keep opposing offenses quiet through 6 innings.
In the bottom of the 7th inning with bases loaded and no outs, Giants’ shortstop Brandon Crawford hit into a double play, but still scored Hunter Pence from third base, thus giving the Giants a 1-0 lead. An inning later, Pence would hit a sacrifice fly and give the Giants another run making the score 2-0. Giants’ closer, Sergio Romo would come into the game and save the game giving the Giants a 2-0 win and lead the series 2-0.
The Tigers only chance of scoring came in the 2nd inning when Delmon Young hit a double to left field. Prince Fielder, who was on first, tried to score, but was thrown out with a well-executed relay from Giants’ left fielder Gregor Blanco to second basemen Marco Scutaro to catcher Buster Posey. Madison Garner would earn the win, Doug Fister the loss and Sergio Romo earned the save.
