The British soldiers are now free and some even got the chance to cash in on their experience. So the world is now safer and at ease, right?
The answer is a big flat NO!
This brief hostage situation might as well be the point in history in which the “barbaric tribes” stood up to the West. It is almost as if though Roman history were being rewritten right before our very eyes and no one is paying attention.
Iran, AKA the Islamic Republic of Iran, is far from a peace-loving country with dreams of using uranium for nuclear energy – look at how much oil the country sits on. Why would an oil-rich country decide overnight to switch to the much more expensive nuclear power generation? To me it makes no sense.
If in fact Iran is seeking nuclear power for energy reasons, then Iran should open its doors to the international inspection crews without restrictions. If they have nothing to hide then they should have no problem doing this, right?
Had this been another country that was not infamous for its wordy talks of annihilation towards countries that have never wronged it and its people, then maybe I would believe the energy hungry cough up instead of the power-starved reality that is the case.
I don’t want to seem like an “infidel” on an attacking rampage of Islamic countries…there are some peaceful ones (like Kuwait). I am merely addressing the actions of the one country that not so long ago proclaimed their death wish to the big Satan, America.
Let’s take a look at some of Iran’s peace-loving acts:
November 1979, Iran peacefully abducts Americans after illegally seizing the American embassy; they were held for 444 days.
Aug 2005, Iran fails to comply with the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty (peacefully).
Oct 2005, Iran’s peace-loving president calling for Israel to be wiped off the map and refers to the holocaust as a “myth.”
And the more recent of the peaceful actions of Iran: holding British troops hostage after illegally capturing them in Iraqi waters.
Are these the acts of a peace loving country? Let’s not kid ourselves; Iran just wants one thing – power over the Middle Eastern political environment.
And now that the most recent hostage situation has become a thing of the past, where does that leave Iran? It leaves Iran laughing its butt off at the West.
They illegally kidnapped foreign troops after trespassing onto Iraqi waters, and the West was unable to do anything about it; nothing but hold television press conferences rambling about how this was unacceptable…all talk!
They (the peaceful leaders of Iran) now know that they can continue with these illegal acts and have little to no consequences to pay. No longer are we in the days that the superpowers would launch aerial bombings as punishments after countries, like Iran, broke international laws (as Reagan did in 1986 against Libya for the terrorist bombing that killed two U.S. servicemen).
They laugh at the faces of the UIEA inspection teams, laugh at the British government, laugh at the U.S. as they call for us to be wiped off the map as well, and laugh as they call for the destruction of Israel. Is this right?
What are we to do about it? Will other countries be following in the steps of this rogue nation and attack our interests elsewhere in the world? Who will be next – will it be American troops next time?
This is some scary stuff ladies and gents!
