College of Education hosts Hooding Ceremony

The College of Education (COED) was glad to acknowledge the achievements of  30 graduates who excelled in their academic studies this past Friday, December 12, 2014 at the Fine and Performing Arts Center. The ceremony took place at 5:30 in the evening with Dr. Jennifer Coronado as the designated reader. In attendance were Dr. Arenaz, the dean of COED Dr. Catheryn Weitman, the dean of Graduate Studies and Research Dr. Jeffrey Brown, the chair of Curriculum and Pedagogy Dr. Diana Linn, and the chair of Professional Programs Dr. Randel Brown.

There was a full house, as parents and friends gathered to celebrate the accomplishments of these students. Dr. Alfredo Ramirez started the ceremony with an insightful and informative introduction. He gladly acknowledged the pride of the college for having produced 4 Noyce Scholarship recipients. Dr. Ramirez passed the stage to Dr. Wietman for her turn to congratulate the scholars on their merit. Dr. Weitman encouraged them to continue on their road to success. She alluded to a book she once read and recommended to all future teachers to follow the words of David Menasche.

Dr. Coronado, with her trademark smile, began to call out the graduates. The students, walked proudly to receive their cords given by professors of their respective departments. Undergrads were dressed in business attire, as they would later receive their cords to compliment their gown for graduation.

The ceremony was a success for both graduates and staff. Family and friends were ecstatic to watch all the students being recognized for all their achievements. After the closing remarks all the attendees gathered at the student center rotunda to revel in each others company. Refreshments were offered and everyone stayed to enjoy the rest of the evening.
