International Editor reflects

I remember writing my admissions essay several years ago saying that I wanted to change the world with my degree. I wrote that I wanted to build bridges between cultures to make this globalized world a better place to live, experience, and share.
But it wasn’t until my very last year that I really discovered how to do it. For reasons out of my control, chance, fate or however you want to call it, I ended up collaborating with The Bridge and immersing myself in the world of the media – something I had never considered before. After all, I am an English and Spanish major, and literature had been my life until then.
Thanks to the guidance and support of Dr. Maria Flores, to whom I will be forever grateful, we started at The Bridge what has now become the TAMIU Internacional section in Spanish.
To say that being International Editor at The Bridge has been, for me, an unexpected but amazing experience is stating only what is on top of the iceberg. It has been a learning experience that has allowed me to discover that things can be done, that bridges between cultures can be built, and that we can start with small things such as a small article in the student newspaper.
Now that I am graduating, and thanks to what I have learned along with everyone at The Bridge, I can go back to my admissions essay and say that I have found the way.
To everyone in The Bridge and to Dr. Flores, for their trust and support during my time at newspaper, thanks from the bottom of my heart.
