Hello everyone, my name is Sofia Sanmiguel Gutierrez, your Student Body president. I’ve been involved in Student Government for the past three years, and I never saw a more caring, diverse, hard working group as your representatives. That’s why I would like to start out by thanking them for all their hard work in the Fall of 2006.
We had many very successful projects last semester; representatives were really committed in solving campus issues, and supporting organizations projects. One of the projects that personally gives me great pride was Cover Laredo, which was headed by Senator Morales. Student Government, with help from local high schools, was able to collect blankets and sweaters for needy Laredo children.
This project was entirely the senate’s idea and I believe this is a very good example of how our representatives are committed not only to our campus, but to the Laredo community as well.
Most of them (student senators), besides their commitment in Student Government, are involved in various clubs, fraternities, and other groups that actively contribute to our community. That’s why I would like to invite you, the student body, to give us feed back on your student life, and voice your concerns; they are of great value to us.

I would also like to encourage you to get involved in your university, and to make the most out of your college experience. The university currently has various clubs and fraternities that meet diverse interests.
I also encourage you to learn more about the Student Government and join, as part of a university committee or as an officer position.
