Feb.18 was an extreme and fun-filled day for Texas A&M International University REC Sports as they hosted the launch of their new and intense class, Bodypump!
“Bodypump is the original barbell class that strengthens your entire body. This 60-minute workout challenges all your major muscle groups by using the best weight-room exercises like squats, presses, lifts and curls,” explains Phillip Mills, Web site founder of Bodypump.
Bodypump orignated from New Zealandís national rugby team. This workout gives individuals the advantage of choosing a weight that they are comfortable using and, most importantly, one that their body can handle. The class is also intensified by the ten different soundtracks that are played throughout the session.
“The music really pumps you up. It allows you to keep on lifting the weight even when your body wants to quit on you,” said Stacey Rodriguez trainer of Bodypump.
The first official class took place Monday, Feb. 22 at 10:00 a.m. at the TAMIU REC.
“We had a really good turnout. About fifteen participants total, most in which were women,” explained Rodriguez.
Rodriguez, who just recently had her first child in Nov., explained that training for Bodypump was what helped her get back into shape.
She and the other trainers had to get certified in order to teach the class effectively. In doing so, they completed a weekend Bodypump boot camp, training for about three weeks.
“We trained for hours and hours out of the day. I can’t remember a time where my muscles had been more sore,” said Rodriguez.
Bodypump burns calories, increases lean muscle mass by improving muscle stength and endurance, and increases bone density.
As Les Mills puts it, “Bodypump instructors and participants are warriors in the battle against sedentary lifestyle.”
