Lil Wayne Hype

The weather for the most part this month conditions. Consequently, it seems ideal for the Laredo Entertainment Center to bring one of the hottest acts of the year, Lil Wayne.

Dubbed “The Best Rapper Alive” Lil Wayne has been producing hit after hit since he first appeared on the scene in the late nineties with acclaimed group “The Hot Boyz” from Cash Money Records. A New Orleans native, Wayne, has made more noise in the pass 2 years by collaborating with a number of various artists, putting out countless mix tapes, and according to Billboard, “Added 17 million dollars to his bank account in record sales in 2008.”

No doubt this is going to be one for the ages, and it may put rumors to rest that Laredo lacks entertainment.

Students dealing with exams and last minute assignments have a chance to catch a great winter concert just before the year is over and it promises to be one of the biggest events of LEC history.

Buildup around the city has already been circulating and the same applies to most TAMIU students.

Some students are taking this opportunity to take a much needed break from school life.

“Its on man…A huge rap concert in Laredo is just what the city needed. The winter break is here and its time to just let all that energy out,” said student Eric Lozano.

For the most part ticket prices are sky high, but that didn’t stop the first five rows to start going fast on Saturday Dec. 5 when people online and outside the LEC were ready to dish out anywhere from $80-$120 for an up close experience.

“I got online at 10:00 a.m. to start ordering my ticket and by 10:15 a.m. most of the first 5 rows were starting to sell. It’s amazing how people are really responding to this concert. It only adds to all the hype,” said student Victor Cardenas.

The radio stations are adding the phrase “The perfect Christmas gift” to the upcoming concert, and it would be interesting to see how many couples actually buy each other this concert ticket?

If anything, this would be a concert to go out and enjoy especially since there is no school. People might as well have a couple of brews during the show.

According to a pole conducted by Global Groove London, the concert promoters, “This is what people are asking for.” Let’s just hope that people out there respond to the concert, and if so, then it will hopefully give promoters more hope in the future to bring out other major acts.
