Astronomy rocks at the fest
In celebration of the International Year of Astronomy (IYA) 2009, the Lamar Bruni Vergara Science Center and Planetarium hosted it's day-long "Rock-It Fest 2009" on Sat. April 18.
An estimated 1500-2000 person mix of TAMIU familiars and Laredo families toured the campus grounds and enjoyed food and attractions, such as face painting, a Nintendo Wii booth, a moon walk, and more.…

TAMIU Film Festival kicks off
Running from May 2 to May 30, the Annette Olsen-Fazi International Film Festival has grown from its initial roots as a sole French film festival.
In 2007, the late Dr. Annette Olsen-Fazi created TAMIU's first French film festival. The following year, she applied for grants in order to continue screening international films with the vision of bringing cultures from abroad to our campus.…

Legalized regulation' of drugs discussed
Terry Nelson, an executive board member and four-year volunteer of Law Enforcement Against Prohibition, urged the "legalized regulation" of drugs in an April 16 presentation.
His presentation was titled "Criminal Justice Professionals Speaking Out Against the War on Drugs" and was sponsored by the TAMIU criminal justice program and the Republican Women's Association.…

Latin American Film Festival screens 'City of God'
"I heard about this at Spanish class. I've never been to [a screening]. I thought it would be interesting," said audience member Katherine Reyes.
