Taste of Laredo
Established in 1985, "Taste of Laredo" has since attracted many people and tourists across the state and nation to this popular food expo.
Whatever in the mood for, they had it, from chocolate covered strawberries to Mexican enchiladas, fajitas, barbecue, seafood, and Italian favorites.
One of main attractions at the "Taste of Laredo" was the bartender competition in which several bartenders competed with others for the title of "Best Bartender", showcasing awesome acrobatic style and flaring techniques.
Entertainment was provided by Bobby Pulido. While many people danced the rest were in line to get second, third, and possibly fourth servings from popular booths such as Buffalo Wild Wings, Rudy's Barbecue, and Tacos de Villa.
Josh Santos, a native Laredoean, stood in line for about twenty minutes at the booth of Tacos de Villa just to get a sample of tacos al pastor.
"It's crazy! I have been here for quite a while and I want to sample other items such as Johnny Carino's and Red Lobster. I couldn't quite choose where to go to first, but my senses led me to Tacos de Villa," said Santos.
Politicians showed up to get a piece of the action and to promote themselves for the upcoming election in March.
Jesus "Chuy" Dominguez, candidate for the 111th District Court, enjoyed the night as he and his friends circled the arena enjoying great food and making new friends.
"This is a great event because this is when all of Laredo gets together as one to eat and socialize with friends as well as making new ones. It gives me great pleasure in knowing that I am part of this wonderful tradition that has gone for twenty-five years," said Dominguez.
Laredo Mayor, Raul G. Salinas also attended the event, making his grand entrance through the arena, posing for photographs and mingling with everyone.
"This is really exciting because it unites kids and families together. It's fun for everybody and families as well. It's really entertaining as every year people look forward to this event, and it's finally here!" said Mayor Salinas.
Councilman Johnny Rendon, District V, was all smiles as he also was discussing with his fellow patrons about how wonderful the food and entertainment was at the LEC.
"Every time you have an event like this, expect people not only from Laredo, but as well as other parts of the state, nation, and possibly other regions of the world to come together in celebrating Washington's Birthday celebration. What other city celebrates and puts forth the effort in celebrating our nations' first ever president," commented Rendon.
