Anticipated AutMus this Saturday
The Sixth Annual AutMus Fest will take place Saturday, Sept. 4, at Texas A&M International University front lawn. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. The event, sponsored by the TAMIU Alumni Association partnered with the Laredo Fire Fighters Association, is an opportunity for the organization to raise scholarship money for students.
AutMus Fest line-up for the evening performance includes appearances in this order by Bacchanalian Bliss, The Shazz, Juvee, Groupo Inalcansable, Groupo Siggno, Los Palominos, and El Poder del Norte. The greater number of Tejano oriented musicians was a decision made by the Alumni Association as described by Yeltiza Howard, Director of Alumni Relations.
"This year, the association decided to showcase more Tejano than previous years, based on popularity within the community. Still, there are some Hip-Hop, R&B, Spanish, and Rock groups performing at our event. The diversification of bands this year is also an attempt to engage a larger crowd of individuals in the community and invite them to see our wonderful, growing campus," explained Howard.
Event attendees are also invited to partake in the Brontosaurus Rib cook-off, a rock wall, and a special designated play area for children sponsored by the Laredo Bucks. Festival goers are also encouraged to bring their own chairs and blankets because of limited seating.
Recently, controversy stirred over the AutMus Fest sale of alcohol on university premises after Webb County Community Coalition of S.C.A.N. program initiated a petition against its sale at AutMus. AutMus Fest will still be selling alcohol to attendees over the legal age.
Howard, emphasized the Alumni Association strict policies in such matters, "With proper identification, those over the age of 21 will be allowed to purchase and consume alcohol at AutMus Fest 2010," Howard continued. "I will also take this moment to mention that the AutMus Fest has, and will continue to enforce strict adherence to this rule."
Tickets are being sold at all Pocket Communication locations and cost $10. Tickets will also be sold at the gate for $15. Sponsors for the event include TAMIU, Miller Light, Border Media, the City of Laredo. KGNS, Laredo CW, Telemundo Laredo, Time Warner Cable, Hal's Landing, Pocket Communications, Villarreal and Romero PLLC, HEB Plus!, Laredo Bucks, Laredo Energy Arena, Casa Raúl, Allstate Moreno Insurance Agency, Allegiant Air, Falcon International Bank, and GText.com
