College of Education holds Master Hooding and Honor Cord Ceremony

Texas A&M International University College of Education held their Honor Cord and Graduate Hooding Ceremony on Friday, May 13, 2011 at the Student Center Ballroom at 5:30 p.m. Music was provided by the Classical Guitar Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Gilberto Soto, Professor of Music. Introductions were made by, Dr. Alfredo Ramirez, Assistant Professor and Director of Educational Administration. Dr. Pablo Arenaz, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs also gave a welcome speech. Dr. Juan Lira, Interim Dean of the College of Education then gave a message to all attendees following the recognition of the Teacher of the Year Award. 

Stage Guests for the program included: Dr. Pablo Arenaz, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs; Dr. Juan Lira, Interim Dean of the College of Education; Dr. Jeffrey Brown, Dean of Graduate Studies and Research; Dr. Cathy L. Guerra, Interim Department Chair of Curriculum and Instruction; Dr. Randel Brown, Interim Department Chair of Professional Programs; Dr. Ronald Anderson, Department Chair of Teacher Preparation; Dr. Deborah L. Blackwell, Director of University Honors Program, and Dr. Jennifer Coronado, Assistant Professor of Education.

Hooding of the Graduates was conducted by, the College of Education Department Chairs and Faculty.

Those who received a Master of Science in Bilingual Education: Jessica Bravo-Banuelos, Claudia Magaly Lopez, Griselda Reyes Sandoval, and Nidia Edith Zamilpa.

Those who received a Master of Science in Educational Administration: Jessica Garcia, Roberto Gonzalez, Tommy Guerrero, Jacqueline Renee Hammond, Ida Lopez, Madison Leigh Mojica, Cristina Palomares, Judith Lynn Valles, and Javier F. Vasquez.

Those who received a Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction: Humberto Cardenas, Kwangseok Hong, Sandra Moncivais, Jessica Navarro, Dora Evanna Trevino, Jorge Enrique Vasquez, and Paula Magdalena Zamora.

Those who received a Master of Science in Special Education: Cynthia Chavez, Christine A. Dickey, Karla Linero, Aide Guadalupe Martinez, Anita Moreno, Noemi Yvette Pena, Cynthia Denise Santos, and Virginia D. Watkins.

Those who received a Master of Science in School Counseling: Nydia Noemi Amesquita, Cynthia Vichareli Castellano, Araceli Magana, Norma Osoria-Gaytan, Elizabeth Ruiz, and Angelica Trevino.

Presentation of the Honor Cord followed thereafter by Dr. Lira and Dr. Brown.

Following the cord presentation, Dr. Blackwell also recognized students graduating under the University Honors Program. Closing remarks were made by, Dr. Lira.
