American Seminar Series
With honor, Dr. Jose Carlos Lozano introduced the First Communication and Media American Seminar Series, on February 27, 2014, at Texas A&M International University. The conference was presented by Professor Juan Pinon, who is Assistant Professor at the University of New York in Media, Cultural and Communication Department. Pinon owns a PHD in Media Studies from the Radio Department and Film from the University of Texas- Austin, Texas. In addition Pinon holds a MA from Universidad Iberoamericana, Mexico, and a BA from Universidad Autonoma Metropolitana - Xochimilco, México. Pinon was a Tv producer in the early 1980's, hoping to become the Manager of Programing and Production of an original television channel in Chiwawa, Mexico. Pinon is currently the U.S coordinator of television fiction.
The Seminar Series was hosted by the Department of Psychology and Communication. In the future, the series will contain various lectures, talks, and any discussions among TAMIU throughout the semesters. The topics discussed through the lecture will be on the most relevant issues. These seminars are designed to give the students a more global feedback, and to educate the students in a more international point of view. The rises and development of the spanish language television and the impacts it has had on our general population.
Pinon spoke of the Spanish television industry, and the development on audiences. It has had an important impact on how latinos are understood in the market. Networks build and produce audiences in the market and economical and cultural aspects, and the marketization of citizenship. The expansion of the industry, mainly in broadcasting and advertising, has grown significantly with latino employees. The hispanic television has been developed by the way we are seen as audiences.Today based on the latino audiences, spanish speaking language television is broadcasted around the nation.
Pinon will be hosting more video series every semester for students who are interested in learning about the growing Spanish influence on the media. You can email Dr. Jose Lozano for more information at jose.lozano@tamiu.edu or you can call him at (956) 326-3117. The video series are held at the Western Hemispheric Trade Center in TAMIU.
