Voice Studio Recital
In order to prepare students for music performances the Texas A&M International University presented the Voice Studio Midterm Recital on March 7, 2012 at 7:30 pm. The Center for Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall demonstrated the talent of 13 vocalists.
The Voice Studio Recital is midterm program that is done every year for students that are taking applied voice classes. The students obtain a grade in their repertoire as their midterm exam. As Dana Crabtree, an instructor of music stated "We try to do it as an actual public performance so that it's more fun and meaningful while they earn their grade." The pieces are selected according to the individual knowledge and need of each singer. Many of these pieces are written specifically for a certain type of voice for example opera accompanied with the piano live music.
The Applied Voice students of Professor Dana Crabtree and Professor Suzanne Ramo performed several pieces in Spanish, English, and other languages accompanied by the pianist Martha Saywell. All pieces are classical vocal repertoire. Ricardo Olguin, Tenor, who opened with Animal Passion, received the public's applause to continue with two Soprano Margaret Medellin and Marianne Garcia. A duo took stage, Rebecca Vera and Enrique Alvarez, to sing "The man who feels love's sweet emotion" by W.A. Mozart. Many other soprano voice students were appreciated such as Raquel Gonzalez, Gilda Caballero, Luz Chavez, Marissa Treviño, and Maria Martinez. The public also heard "O Mistress Mine" by Roger Quilter which was performed by Ronald Chamberlain, "Avant de quitter ces lieux" by Charles Gounod as Alexis Reyes a Baritone singer performed, and "Asturia" by Manuel de Falla with the singer Joel Bazan-Gomez. Most pieces from the 1700s and 1800s were portrayed that night to family members, students, and professors.
This is a face to face course and most of the students taking this course are music majors or have some knowledge in the music field. Auditions are made before students enroll this type of courses. To take these courses the students must have some prior experience.
