Arte en la Avenida
Vega's, the Arts and Crafts business, hosted Arte en La Avenida on Saturday Sept. 29, in their patio located at 4002 San Bernardo Ave. In order to promote local artists and to be more recognized among the Laredo community, Vega's sets a space for them to sell their arts and crafts. The entrance is free and open to the public.
Vega's is a business dedicated to selling clothes, furniture and other various crafts that may be typical in many cultures. People may decorate their home, ranch, or buy a gift with all the merchandise sold at this location. This business has been in existence for about ten years.
They recently started with this idea of inviting the Laredo community to promote their art in the venue. In order to be able to set a table in their patio, the artist needs to pay a $20 fee, and they can bring all their artworks to sell. At the same time that they are able to sell their arts, they promote themselves as artists. Some of the things that the public may buy include paintings from Tomas Hinojosa, who bases his works on actual events that happen in our world such as the aligning of the sun and Venus; Also displaying her art was Penelope Warren, who started using watercolor about two years ago, and her 15-year experience in photography made her works different from the rest. Handmade jewelry and more were for sale at this exhibition.
These exhibitions take place every last Saturday of the month. Texas A&M International University students and professors are invited to showcase their work and be known not only to the university, but also to the community. The next show will be on Oct. 27, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
