OLE!
On Thursday, September 27 at 7:30 p.m. La posada Hotel, an ionic symbol of the city of Laredo, hosted an event open to the public. It was a night to honor and celebrate the Spanish culture of this region. The event named Noche Espanola consisted of tapas (a Spanish dish), acoustic music, and traditional flamenco dancers.
Noche Espanola is part of a new tradition that started earlier this year. La Posada will be hosting bi-monthly parties, each consisting of different special themes all connected through culture. According to The Director of Marketing at La Posada, Enrique Lobo, "this is part of an effort to provide the community with a new outlet for people who want more than just the typical restaurant, club, or movie."
The night consisted of good music, great food, and amazing performances. La Juerga was the main event. They are a flamenco ensemble composed of acoustic guitarist, vocalists, and both male and female dancers from all over the US. La Juergas performance was magnificent. It featured an impressive repertoire of dances by the dancers and incredible vocals as well as traditional flamenco costumes. Apart from providing music and dance, La Posada also provided tapas courtesy of the Zaragoza Grill.
Tapas are a traditional Spanish appetizer made up of pita bread. They were served with a delicious humus and an olive salad. This delightful appetizer drew great reviews from Texas A&M International University students and alumni.According to Carlos A. Cortez, a student from TAMIU, "there is no reason we should not want to be here." Another student from TAMIU, Sergio Perez, stated, "its an opportunity to build different cultures and learn from different cultures.
Lobo also added that La Posada is doing more than providing entertainment for the community. They are also involved in various charitable events. One of the upcoming events will be a cooking class on October 5th taught by Chef Gutierrez. All donations from that event will be donated to WINGS Laredo. WINGS is a non-profit breast cancer organization. Along with WINGS donations, ten percent of the Zaragoza Grill's contributions for the entire month of October will also be donated to this organization.
The Bridge wants to thank La Posada for opening its doors to our reporters, and encourages readers to attend and engage in future events. It's and amazing and different experience, so go out there and live it your self. For future information on events contact La Posada at (956) 722-1701 or visit Laposada.com.
