Alex Hibbit Art Exhibit
With the intent of exposing students to different artists from all over the United States, Texas A&M International University invited Alex Hibbitt to expose his work to the Laredo community. TAMIU held the closing reception for "Transitory Spaces," an Alex Hibbitt collection, this past Feb. 21 at the Fine and Performing Arts Gallery. Beverages and food were served for all those who attended the event.
Many students and faculty were present at this closing exhibition where Hibbitt's work was shown. About 10 different artworks were exposed in the months of Jan. and Feb. The meaning that students were able to extract from this was amazing and many stated that they could feel identified with many of the pieces, and that this inspired them to do this type of work. Hibbitt, along with fellow artist Brian Benfer, came to Laredo to set up the exhibit.
Hibbitt's work reflects historic cultural references that are contemporary and abstract. The dimensional figures and materials also make up an important part of what his work expresses. The art and design of these sculptures somewhat links to the metaphors of the TV and computer.
