COAS Honor Cord Ceremony

The College of Arts and Sciences hosted their Honor Cord and Graduate Hooding ceremony for the Spring 2010 on May 12 at the Student Center ballroom.
During the ceremony, a total of 46 outstanding students were honored; 35 undergraduate and eleven graduates. All of them represented a variety of COAS academic departments. Professor Faridoun Farrokh was the guest speaker. The TAMIU Silverwind Ensemble directed by Dr. Susan Berdahl performed during the ceremony. .
Several undergraduate students were honored with the Summa Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, and Cum Laude. Those students were: Aracelí Vanessa Águila, Luís Alberto Águila, Dawn Marie Brondo, Michael Bustamante, Sandra Contreras, Pedro D. Escamílla, Nancy García, Elizabeth A. Hernandez, Bonnie Ann Hinojosa, Acerina Madrigal, Tanya Menchaca, Nancy Zavala, Rene Ricardo Camacho, Cynthia Angelica Gallardo, Cesar Arturo Garcia, Alissa Gonzalez, Christopher Stewart Kimmel, Paul Eduardo Miranda, Manuel Zacarias Montes, Sandra Elizabeth Prado, Myriam Yoseleth Solalinde, Mallely del Carmen Blanco, Mario Gerardo Cavazos Jr. Lilia Ludim Eskildsen, Gina Yvette Garcia, Eric Garza, Jovita Luna, Jessica McGee, Mary Robin McGregor Anderson, Manuel H. Barragan, Carlos Andres Cantu, Armando Cervantes, Adrian Lopez Casiano, Prakash K Mansinghani, and Octavio Morales-Escobedo. The graduate students who received the graduate hooding were: Eliza Cortez, Esther Fatima Garza, Stephen Paul Byrd, Lucia Elizabeth Juarez, Daniel Joseph villa, Rou-Lin Ciou, Melissa Nicole Reyna, Abel de los Santos, Oholibama K. Granados Adan Arriaga, and Valerie Ann Gonzalez,
The ceremony was presided by Dr. Pablo Arenas (Provost/VP for Academic Affairs), Ms. Mary Treviño (Associate VP for Academic Affairs), Dr. Thomas Mitchell (Dean, College of Arts and Sciences), Dr. Carol Waters (Director of Bi-National Center), Dr. Daniel Mott (Associate Dean), Dr. Hoonandara Goonatilake (Interim Chair, Department of Engineering, Mathematics and Physics), Ms. Bede Leyendecker (Chair, Department of Fine and Performing Arts), Dr. Manuel Broncano (Chair, Department of Language and Literature), Dr. Mohamed Ben-Ruwin (Chair, Department of Social Sciences), and Dr Roberto Heredia (Chair, Department of Behavioral, Applied Sciences and Criminal Justice).
TAMIU is characterized for having a unique type of students: some of them are first generation college graduates, others continue the family tradition of holding a university degree, and a few come to further their education achieving a post graduate degree.
