Eric was born and raised in Missouri. He first attended Duke University where he became an Angier B. Duke Scholar studiying philosophy, public policy, and ethics. He then went on to Oxford where he was selected as a Rhodes and a Truman Scholar, and later earned a Masters degree in 1998 and a Ph.D. in 2000. Not only did Eric seek to better himself by getting multiple degrees he also decided to join The United States Navy Seals, a highly powerful, and intelligent group of elite soldiers.
As a Navy Seal Eric deployed four times during the Global War on Terrorism to Afghanistan, Iraq, the Horn of Africa, and South East Asia. Eric served as a commander of multiple special operations units as well as a Commander in an al Qaeda Targeting Cell. His military awards include a purple heart, and the Bronze Star. After returning from his last tour in Iraq Eric donated his entire combat pay to found "The Mission Continues", which challenges veterans to serve and inspire in communities across America.
Eric became the CEO of "The Mission Continues" and was recognized by The Nonprofit Times, National Journal, and outside magazine for being one of the most effective leaders in America. Goldman Sachs has also named him one of the country's most innovative entrepreneurs of 2013. Time Magazine also added them to their list of 100 most influential people in the world of 2013
Greitens organization ¨ The Mission Continues¨ helps veterans find purpose after they have served their country proudly. Most of the veterans that participate in this organization find purpose by offering their service to their community. By finding a sense of purpose outside the military they are able to become leaders and many go back to school to finish their studies.
