IHOP Into Them Books
Wednesday May 7 at Killam Library, the Office of Student Affairs offered heavy-eyed students exhausted from finals hot breakfast free of charge. It was dubbed the Late Night breakfast, and it was held from 9:30 to Midnight. Students in need of recharging their brains walked down the stairs of the library following the smell of hot pancakes and coffee.
Any student who has experienced the mental hostility and lack of personal life due to finals week, knows that the library closes at midnight. It has become a sixth sense. When the fluorescent lighting gives way to a dim floor and the campus cop comes in the computer room, the synchronized mouse clicks of students exiting from their TAMIU Angel accounts (along with the occasional Facebook tab) can be heard. So with this in mind, the schedule of the Late Night breakfast seemed to be one of predictability: eat your food and leave because the library closes. But this is no longer the case.
That's right. The breakfast acted as a symbolic mark for the libraries temporary 24/7 schedule; only instead of a red ribbon, there were pancakes. In response to the hectic schedule changes students experience during finals week, the library staff was courteous enough to tweak the library schedule to more helpful business hours. So what brought this much needed reform "It was just a lot of student push," said Student Government President Jackie Briseño. "The demand was really high... I heard, ever since freshman year, everybody talked about how the library would close too early and it was inconvenient."
So there you have it. A much needed objective met through TAMIU's democratic system. The 24/7 schedule takes effect all through both weeks of finals. For more information on the Killam Library schedule, feel free to call the information desk at 956-326-2399.
