Moran awarded grant
Angela Moran, Assistant Professor of Communication at Texas A&M International University was recently awarded the Texas Filmmakers Production Fund (TFPF) grant by the Austin Film Society for an upcoming project entitled, Jornaleros. Moran was chosen from a pool of 183 applicants with only a total of 24 selected to receive the grant. Moran's grant totals out to be $1,000 for production and post-production costs.
The TFPF grant began 1996 and has awarded 290 grants to filmmakers across Texas. Money for production cost as well as stipends for traveling filmmakers are also available through TFPF. Those awarded this grant are often featured in prestigious film festivals including Sundance, Cannes, Tribeca, Toronto, Slamdance, and SXSW. Many of these recipients have also had their creative work featured in theatres and home movies.
Award information and details for these recipients are stated by the Austin Film Society, "Awards are provided to artists whose work shows promise, skill, and creativity. Every August, an independent panel of highly esteemed professionals from the national film community convenes in Austin to review applications and administer awards. Award announcements are posted on our website at the conclusion of the panel session and grant disbursements are made in early September."
Jonaleros, a 30-minute documentary investigates human right rimes against Mexican labor workers and also reveals criminal charges against illegal immigrants. Nine undocumented immigrants will be interviewed from various parts of the United States.
