Are You Connected?
Texas A&M International University connects future students, current students, alumni, faculty, and staff through the TAMIU application. This application was created Oct. 2011 by the Office of Public Relations, Marketing, and Information Systems in partnership with iTX Corp. in New York. A research will be conducted by communication students in Nov. 2012 with the help of students, faculty, and staff to know if TAMIU is aware and in use of this application. Surveys will be handed out throughout campus and will be posted online in Uconnect.
Steve Harmon, director of the office of public relations, marketing and information services, stated, "TAMIU student consumers are tech-savvy and tech-dependent and this app provides yet another important linkage between them and the University. It also has relevance for alumni and the community at large and anyone interested in TAMIU, its offerings, and its initiatives. The new app also encompasses some of the University's other existing outreach and social media initiatives." Any iPhone, Android, Blackberry, and iPad users can download this free application.
Analu Ramirez, sophomore communication major, will be handing out short surveys on campus, during the following weeks in order to gather information from the TAMIU community. Ramirez stated, "The surveys that will be distributed consist of questions that will help us know whether TAMIU knows about the application or not, and if they use it, most people do not know how to use it, which might be one of the reasons they don't have it." The surveys will be distributed between Pellegrino and Canseco Hall by communication students participating in this research project, and "we would really appreciate it if TAMIU helps us out to gather as much information as possible," Ramirez added.
For those that don't know what type of information the application has to offer, senior Patricia Shepherd said, "when downloading this application, TAMIU has the ability to look for information about the university, on campus events, university calendar, news, faculty and staff directory, and hot links that take you directly where you want to go."
