Accomplished photographer Bob Daemmrich made a special visit to Texas A&M International University students taking the journalistic writing course on Thursday, Sept. 20.  Daemmrich was on campus on a job assignment as part of the unveiling of the Senator Judith Zaffirini Student Success Center.

Daemmrich talked to the journalism students about his love for photography and how he began his career. He stated, "it was my grandfather, who put a camera in my hand at about 6 years old...I always knew I wanted to be a photographer," when asked about who motivated him in his choice. "I started out in the news business...at the University of Wisconsin-Madison," continued Daemmrich, as he explained his earlier years. At such a young age, he had a good idea on what he would be in life, "I think that the passion comes really early," he stated.

After getting his education, Daemmrich moved to Texas to work on a newspaper in College Station. From there, Daemmrich would go on and work at many other newspapers throughout. Currently, his main job is to take photographs of senators and other high profiled people in the capitol. "My main beat, I work at the capital, I've been doing photography at the capital for about 20-25 years," he said.

Along with his job as photographer at the capitol, Daemmrich has his own business at Daemmrich Photography. He has taken photos that have been used in school textbooks and has covered events such as the London 2012 Paralympics. Daemmrich mentioned that a big part of his success is because he covers a "variety of assignments."
